I find this to be a great feminist reading of the film, but it fails to note one key point. Ursula, by far the most badass of all Disney villains, was envious if Ariel’s voice, and was seeking to obtain its use for herself. She also used the voice to seduce the price, and nearly succeeds in marrying him If the above reading is indeed accurate, then Ursula has a conscious desire to join in and be a participant in the patriarchy at her prescribed position.
